Wildlife

Jan Dungel

I have been documenting neotropic nature, particullarly birds, since 1992. I regularly spent in Amazonia, wetlands of Llanos and Pantanal, cloud forest on slopes of Andes and elsewhere several months every year.

For painting I use aquarel paper sketchbook A3 (42 x 29,7 cm), water colours and pencils. I sometimes use photos in my work, particularly those of my wife (wildlife photographer www.radanadungelova.com), nature field guides and other books on the neotropic wildlife which I carry with me. But I never paint animals or plants I can‘t observe in their natural conditions: I insist on personal contact with animals "at their homes". I usually finish my work straight in the field, sometimes in my studio after coming back home.
